Friend,

This month, the second round of monthly payments from the newly-expanded Child Tax Credit made their way to millions of working families.

Our efforts to elect President Biden and a Democratic majority in Congress resulted in the passage of the American Rescue Plan -- and with it the Child Tax Credit expansion -- despite zero votes from Republican lawmakers.

Now, with these payments, working families can breathe knowing they have room to cover expenses and pay the bills.

If you’re a parent or caregiver, here’s what you need to know about the Child Tax Credit:

- The Child Tax Credit is being delivered in six monthly payments this year to an estimated 35 million families, covering nearly 60 million children.
- The monthly payments total up to $300 for each child under six and up to $250 for each child ages 6 to 17.
- The payments will go out around the 15 of every month, starting in July and ending in December.
- To be eligible for the child tax credit, the child you are claiming the credit for must be under the age of 18.
- If you filed an income tax return in either 2019 or 2020, or you signed up to get an Economic Impact Payment last year, you automatically received the first monthly payment.
- You don’t have to do anything to get your credit -- it will be automatically deposited into your bank account or mailed as a check.

This new program will mean a lot to individual families across America -- and to our country as a whole. New data suggests the Child Tax Credit could cut childhood poverty in half.

The change that you all worked for in 2020 is happening right now. Before the first of the newly-expanded Child Tax Credit check was sent out on July 15, 11 percent of families reported that they were experiencing food insecurity. After the first check went out, that rate dropped to eight percent of families.

As our country continues to recover from COVID-19, President Biden and Democrats in Congress have made real progress in reducing the weight on families’ shoulders through the American Rescue Plan and the Child Tax Credit.

These payments are aiding in the fight against food insecurity, helping families recover during a time of historic challenges, and dramatically decreasing child poverty. The next step is to continue them into 2022 and beyond.

Senate Democrats have already proposed to extend the Child Tax Credit for five years through their $3.5 trillion budget proposal.

The work you’ve done is changing our country for the better, and you can keep it going. Take our survey now to build momentum for a long-term extension of the Child Tax Credit: [link removed]
