Hey Friend,
It’s been another huge week for voting rights, and I wanted to reach out and give you an update. I’ll start with the good news: earlier this week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the historic John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!
Friend, this is an absolutely huge step forward. This is the most important voting rights legislation since the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and if it clears the Senate, it will protect the right to vote for millions of Americans -- especially historically marginalized communities. And you know what? That’s thanks to Texas Democrats. Before I get too into the weeds here, will you rush $7 to help us continue leading the country forward in this fight?
For the last seven months, our Texas Democratic community has been working day and night to fend off Republicans’ attacks on voting rights. And right now, we’re seeing those efforts come to fruition in Congress. Democratic lawmakers, progressive advocates, concerned members of communities all across our state -- we’ve raised hell, stuck together, and now, we’re moving the needle. So thank you, Friend, for being a partner in the national struggle for voting rights.
Here’s the other news: the fight is still raging. Later today, Republicans’ anti-voter bill SB 1 is once again up for a crucial vote in the Texas House. We’re in a race against time to stop this bill from going through -- and buy time for Congress to do their part before it’s too late.
Our voices have never mattered more than they do right now. We need to show our legislators we have their back in the Texas legislature, and we need to ratchet up the pressure on our federal lawmakers -- to push them to finally pass this national law protecting the right to vote. So Friend, I’m asking you to show up one more time. Tired as we are, now is the time to keep pushing. Will you chip in $7 or whatever you can to hold the line for voting rights today?
