Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, author of three New York Times Bestsellers including The Daughters of Kobani: A Story of Rebellion, Courage, and Justice, headlines this year’s Laura Bush Book Club program on November 1, 2021. Published earlier this year, The Daughters of Kobani tells the story of an all-female militia that faced off against ISIS in the little-known town of Kobani. Admiral William McRaven called it, “Absolutely fascinating and brilliantly written … a must-read for anyone who wants to understand both the nobility and the brutality of war.”
Tzemach Lemmon, who is also a national security expert and former journalist who has covered Afghanistan extensively, will discuss the book and also offer insights on the unfolding situation in Afghanistan. Her 2011 book, The Dressmaker Of Khair Khana tells the story of a real-life heroine, a young entrepreneur whose business created jobs and hope for women in her neighborhood during the Taliban years.
