35 years ago, Hilda sheep was rescued from a deadpile at the now-defunct Lancaster Stockyard. This was the beginning of Farm Sanctuary-a radical act of compassion that sparked a grassroots movement that continues to change the world.

Today, alarm bells are sounding over factory farming's destructive impact on society and the environment. Global awareness of farm animal suffering and sentience is growing and plant-based living is going mainstream.

We've come a long way since 1986-and we've done it together.

The Sanctuary movement wasn't created by one person or one organization, but by the collective actions of compassionate individuals-by believers. If you're reading
this, you are part of that community: you are the Power of Sanctuary. Your actions have ripple effects in a movement that is gaining more momentum, every single day.

About the virtual celebration

Join special guests Board Chair Emily Deschanel, John Lewis, Dominick Thompson, Bob Weir, and others, as we reflect on 35 years of Sanctuary, plus the work involved in creating a more just and compassionate food system. We'll be honoring amazing changemakers: Brenda Sanders of Thrive Baltimore, Afro-Vegan Society, Vegan Soulfest, and Greener Kitchen and Maggie Baird of Support + Feed for their commitment to food justice and combating food insecurity. You'll hear stories of survival, of hard-won victories, and more!
