John, I wanted to send a personal note to share where we’re at this point in the cycle and what we have coming up in the campaign.

Right now, we have two announced Republican opponents and are the top endangered Democrat in California. We’re also a top target for GOP Super PACs and special interests - I have 3 (!) different GOP groups running ads against me as I type this. Despite everything that’s been going on in the world, they’re attacking me because I introduced a bill to ban corporate PACs. Sorta ironic.

We also know what the upcoming challenges look like. Redistricting is a huge question mark since California has an independent redistricting commission. We have to be prepared for whatever they throw at us, quite possibly a redder district. What we know for sure - we’ll have thousands of new voters to talk to and thousands of new voters to register. We have to build out an aggressive field program, and we have to do it earlier than ever before.

And we have to manage all this while making sure we don’t miss our end of month fundraising goals. We can’t do any of this vital campaign work without the money to fund it.

The next election is going to come down to a handful of battleground races, and I already know I’m the Republicans’ #1 target in California.
