In a moment, I’m going to ask you to make a contribution toward our campaign but first, I hope you will let me explain why this request is so important, especially today.

Fundraising has been pretty slow over the past few months. Look, I get it — folks are spending more time outside, enjoying the summer weather with family and friends, and less time online checking their inboxes. And that’s the way it should be!

But the truth is, we can’t afford to become complacent because midterm elections are typically tough for the president’s party. Remember, Democrats lost six seats in the Senate and 63 seats in the House during President Obama’s first term in 2010, and did not regain both majorities for another decade.

As majority leader, Mitch McConnell turned the Senate into a legislative graveyard — refusing to work with President Obama and allowing 500 critical bills to pile up and collect dust on his desk.

Now, he’s going to do (and spend!) whatever it takes to flip the one seat he needs to reclaim the Senate majority and block our progress. We can’t let him.

This will be an uphill battle, but this incredible grassroots team knows how to win a tough fight. Democrats, myself included, need you to lead us all to victory again. That’s why I’m asking:
