Friend,

I want to talk to you about two different realities.

In one, dark money is fueling angry partisanship that stops progress and wreaks havoc on our democracy. Just this month, a dark-money group announced a $5 million ad buy against vulnerable House Democrats like me -- more than a year before anyone even casts a ballot.

But in the other reality, we're working together to pass crucial legislation and proving that bipartisan cooperation to improve people's lives is still absolutely possible.

Over the years, so many Americans have come to see politics as nothing more than that first reality. I ran for Congress to change that, and it's a vision that I know you and millions of others believe in.

So while we brace for that $5 million dark-money ad buy, we've set a goal of raising $5,000 from grassroots supporters to bring more hope and optimism to our politics. Will you make a donation before our end-of-month deadline to help us reach our goal, and prove to the skeptics that a different kind of politics is possible?

Here's the thing D.C. insiders don't get: When I talk about bipartisanship and listening to people I disagree with, it's not a bunch of hot air. It's what I actually do -- and I know it makes me a better representative.

But millions of dollars in dark money is poised to flood our district, and it's going to try to tell a different story. That's why I'm counting on your support right now. Will you chip in before our August 31 deadline to bring us closer to our $5,000 goal and show that you still have my back?

Here's to hearing each other out, finding common ground, and moving forward together.

With gratitude,

Dean
