FIRE ZONES ARE WIDE OPEN FOR THE DENSITY THAT’S ALLOWED IN SB 9

SB 9 refers to a strict fire zone rule. Then SB 9 takes that rule away. A legislator would have to dig deep into the Public Resources Code, Section 4202, to find the words that negate SB 9’s strict safety promise. Utterly. Negate.

"This subparagraph does not apply to sites excluded from the specified hazard zones by a local agency, pursuant to subdivision (b) of Section 51179, or sites that have adopted fire hazard mitigation measures pursuant to existing building standards or state fire mitigation measures applicable to the development.”

Translated? SB 9 does not restrict developers in fire zones unless their project fails to follow existing building codes. Tell your legislator TODAY, no new fire hardening is in SB 9.

A RECENT AMENDMENT TO SB 9 CAN’T STOP DEVELOPERS FROM TAKING OVER SINGLE-FAMILY NEIGHBORHOODS

Yesterday, League of Cities Assistant Legislative Director Jason Rhine told a webinar crowd that a new amendment to SB 9 by Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, said to prevent corporations from bidding for homes against families, "is unenforceable."

A recent amendment requires home buyers to state their "intent" to live in the home for 3 years. It has drawn criticism for lacking teeth.

SB 9 is NOT for homeowners because they’d have to first pay off their own mortgage to build in their yards. How much? The average Californian owes about $371,000 to the bank!
