It’s time to put kids first. It’s time to give parents a choice in how and where their children learn. And it’s time to allow education funding to follow students.

The United States was quick to recognize that empowering women in Afghanistan was in our national security interest. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council was created as a presidential initiative under President George W. Bush. To date, thousands of Afghan women have been mentored, educated, and assisted in so many different ways. Last week, a group of senators sent a letter to the Biden-Harris administration urging them to take swift and robust action to protect and support Afghan female leaders. Politicians often talk about reducing inequality and helping the most vulnerable. Today, worsening economic conditions threaten to take us in the opposite direction. Low-income, minority, and elderly families are hardest hit by rising inflation—a whopping 5.4% price increase in July compared to a year ago, a spike not reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics since the Great Recession started in summer 2008. Democrats’ $3.5 trillion “human infrastructure” spending plan would make inflation worse, leaving more American families scraping by today and saddling future generations with astronomical debt. Do you want the shape of your congressional district decided by Washington bureaucrats or unelected judges? That’s what H.R. 4, otherwise known as the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021, will do. H.R. 4 will also put state legislators between a rock and a hard place—requiring them to consider race in redistricting while simultaneously prohibiting racial discrimination and despite the Constitution’s prohibition on racial classifications.
