John,
Good news: the House of Representatives just passed H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!
This crucial piece of legislation will prevent discriminatory voting policies and make sure that changes to voting processes that could create barriers to voting based on race or background are federally reviewed by restoring an important provision in the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The act was last reauthorized unanimously in the Senate and signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2006.
The numerous assaults we’re seeing across the country on Americans’ freedom to vote demonstrate why this bill is so critical. Now it’s time for the Senate to act and guarantee equal access to the ballot box by passing this bill.
And while this bill passed the House on a party-line vote, strengthening the Voting Rights Act has always been bipartisan — so the Senate should keep that tradition going!
Senate: Protect the freedom to vote and pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!
As a civil rights leader, Rep. John Lewis dedicated his life to protecting every American’s freedom to vote. We must honor Rep. Lewis and all those who’ve fought for the right to vote by ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in our democratic process and have their voice heard.
The House did their part, now the Senate must take action.
Add your name: Senate, pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!
