John,
Thanks to you, we’re one step closer to passing President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, paid for by ensuring the rich and corporations start paying their fair share.
The House voted yesterday along party lines to pass the 10-year $3.5 trillion budget resolution. This is a framework that allows Congress to write “budget reconciliation” legislation so that the measure can pass with just 51 votes in the Senate―to avoid a certain Republican filibuster. (You know how the GOP hates to make the rich and corporations pay their fair share!)
Now begins a much harder job of getting Congress to write the detailed legislation that will close corporate tax loopholes, create a tax system that rewards work, not wealth, and ensure the rich and corporations stop cheating on their taxes and pay what they owe―like the rest of us do.
Several moderate Democrats have indicated that they will only approve investments that are fully paid for―meaning the less revenue we raise from the rich and corporations, the fewer investments we’ll be able to make in working families.
This will be a test of our grassroots power vs. corporate lobbyists who are already swarming Capitol Hill. And, with the timing of the budget reconciliation vote in the House tied to the Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill, we only have a few weeks to win this.
Help us fight for a historic budget that invests in working families, jobs, the environment, affordable healthcare and education, paid for by making the rich and corporations pay their fair share in taxes. Donate $5 today to fuel the fight to win >>
