Dear John,
Can you help grow the movement for war abolition by starting up a WBW chapter in your area? From fasting against Canada's planned purchase of fighter jets to training youth peacebuilders in Cameroon, World BEYOND War chapters are making a difference in their communities around the world to combat militarism and advocate for peace. Even amidst the pandemic, new WBW chapters have sprung up around the world to call for the urgent need to redirect military spending. Chapters got creative, using virtual tactics and socially-distanced actions, to keep lobbying for change, even when we couldn't gather in person. We're building momentum as a grassroots global network, with 18 chapters in 9 countries. Is your town next?

Chapters meet 4+ times a year and work on education and activist campaigns that resonate most with their members, such as hosting virtual anti-war book clubs or divesting their city from weapons or lobbying for the end of the war on Yemen. World BEYOND War is unique because we look at war through a holistic lens that examines all of its multi-faceted impacts. Through this intersectional approach, chapters are building coalitions in their communities with a diversity of groups, to insert war abolition into the conversation about climate change, racism, the economy, civil liberties, etc.
By joining the World BEYOND War network, you become part of a global community of peace educators and activists. Through our platform, we facilitate networking between chapters to share strategies and tactics across regions. On quarterly chapter coordinator calls, you can meet up with others who are working towards the same goals. And we can leverage our global email list, social media channels, and website to publicize your events and actions.
Chapters are supported by World BEYOND War's staff, who provide resources and training based on the feedback we hear from coordinators on the ground in their communities. For example, earlier this year we hosted a Twitter 101 training to discuss how to use Twitter more effectively to advance campaigns, as well as a training on how to use Canva to create beautiful graphics and flyers. These are just a few examples of the tools we provide to chapters to support and amplify their work.
