Things are changing in the Lone Star state. The Texas electorate is growing, highly motivated and engaged, and looks a lot different [[link removed]] than in years past.
One reason for this change? The hard work of #PeopleLikeUs. The Latinx electorate doubled in size [[link removed]] from 2014 and 2018, making the community a force to be reckoned with. This is big news for a state that has recently been called the “ biggest battleground state in the county [[link removed]] .” Considering that the Latinx community will also soon make up the majority of Texas’s population, it’s clear that #PeopleLikeUs have the power to make change happen and elect leaders who truly represent our communities!

Close 👏 The 👏 Camps 👏 All of them. As reported yesterday, BuzzFeed News found out that Roberto Rodriguez-Espinoza, a Mexican immigrant in ICE custody, died last month [[link removed]] after officials waited more than seven hours to transfer him to a hospital. This is beyond unacceptable.
Roberto’s death is yet another horrific reminder of the inhumane conditions #PeopleLikeUs face when held in ICE concentration camps. We cannot allow immigrants to be abused, neglected, separated from their families, and denied their rights. It’s past time that we stand together and hold our leaders accountable for these abuses and demand that all camps are closed.

Last night, our Founder and President Sayu Bhojwani received the Changemaker Award [[link removed]] from the New York Immigration Coalition. 🙌 As she said then, “Today, I continue this legacy at New American Leaders by making sure the America we came for comes into being.”
Sayu will also be speaking at the 2019 National Immigrant Integration Conference [[link removed]] this weekend in Detroit, along with Aamina Ahmed, NAL’s Program Manager; Raquel Castañeda-López, a member of NAL’s board of directors and a trainer; and Seydi Sarr, a #NALpista. Follow the action with the hashtag #NIIC2019!
And, finally, our New American Hero Awards [[link removed]] and Power and Policy national summit [[link removed]] are on November 14 and 15, respectively, in Washington, D.C.
