Dear Friend, The Postal Regulatory Commission has called Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's plan to raise prices and slow down the mail "not grounded in reality."1 A member of the USPS Board of Governors has called the Trump-appointee's plan "dangerous" and failing the USPS’s responsibility to America.2 But DeJoy's plan is moving forward anyway, and if Congress doesn't act, a 220-year-old institution will be decimated. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Make no mistake, the delays with the mail we’ve been experiencing for more than a year are intentional. DeJoy owns a $30 million stake in a shipping contractor and $100,000 in Amazon stock options—both competitors of the USPS.3 That's why he ordered mail sorting machines to be dismantled and overtime for employees to be canceled. Now DeJoy is putting into action a 10-year plan to slow down the mail even further while implementing sweeping price increases—meaning our own post office won't be competitive.4 The death of the post office is more than just an end to a democratic institution we’ve counted on for more than two centuries. It means that people in rural and impoverished areas may no longer be able to get prescriptions and paychecks. It means small businesses that can’t afford these price increases will be shuttered.5 We can't let that happen. Demand Progress has driven in tens of thousands of messages urging that DeJoy be fired and that Congress pass the Postal Service Reform Act, which will change the funding structure of the USPS and make it self-sufficient for generations to come. Send a clear message to President Biden that grassroots activists like you support firing DeJoy and want his administration to be staffed by progressives working in the public interest.
