North Carolina Republican Party

Friend --

Another Democrat debate, another night of Republican ad makers going absolutely bonkers with excitement. A quiet week in Raleigh preceded the State Fair starting yesterday. It appears fall weather is finally here, so settle in with your Saturday morning cup of coffee and read up on the stories you might have missed this week.

WHAT HAPPENED

STORIES FROM THE NATION

As other states and cities raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, some companies have done it on their own free of government coercion (how it should be done). Some companies can afford to do it, others can't. Read on to find out what happened after Target raised their minimum wage to $15 an hour (like you don't already know). CNN

Amidst all the talk about impeachment, you've probably seen some "Stop The Madness" ads online somewhere. The RNC and Trump campaign raised a ridiculous $125M last quarter, and they decided to set another record this year with their $27M September haul. Fox News

The Democrats' Medicare For All plan, endorsed by the NCDP, is exceedingly expensive and would require massive tax increases on everyone. Far-left candidates like Sen. Warren, Sen. Harris, and Sen. Sanders have all pushed the plan that would kick everyone off of their private health insurance. The issue that is surely a complete surprise: they don't have the money to do it. The Washington Free Beacon

The National Education Association (NEA) is the liberal teacher's union based in DC, and the NCAE is their NC chapter. In this op-ed, read about where those union dues went and how the Janus decision impacted them. Herald And Review

STORIES FROM NC

Speaking of education, Democrats are hell-bent on stopping the ever-growing school choice movement, insinuating that parents are too stupid to make the best decisions for their own children or that charter schools are racist (laughable). Charter schools offer choices to parents regardless of demographics. Education Post

This interview is absolutely brutal. Cooper, who campaigned on transparency in 2016 (laughable for a guy who sent 14 emails over 16 years as AG), is refusing to answer how he's spending taxpayer dollars on his travel. Watch the video at the bottom. Trust me. WBTV

This Recap has talked about the refusal from a few sheriffs in NC to honor ICE detainers at the detriment of public safety. Democrat Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker is one of them, and now he's under fire for his spending habits while the Democrat Wake County Commissioners cover for him. WRAL

The top judicial race on the ticket will be for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, i.e. Newby vs. Beasley. Check out this breakdown on their judicial records and which case may present the most distinction regarding judicial philosophies. Carolina Journal

TRACKING YOUR REPRESENTATIVES

CONGRESS

In one of the few bipartisan measures to come out of the House, they passed a series of bills supporting the Hong Kong protestors (something the NBA couldn't be bothered to do). They also passed a bill to help disabled veterans

The Senate confirmed Barbara Barrett to be the Secretary of the Air Force. She is the third woman in a row to hold the position, and not only is she certified for space travel, but she was the first civilian women to land an F/A-18 on a carrier. They also kept confirming more judicial nominees like Charles Eskridge to the Southern District of Texas and Rachel Kovner to the Eastern District of New York

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Both chambers held skeleton sessions this week, although some action is planned for next week.
