ALIGN is proud to announce our final honoree for the 2021 Movement Builders Awards: Stuart Appelbaum, President of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), for his leadership and commitment to building power with workers across industries, advancing workers’ rights, and reining in corporations like Amazon. Come join us in celebrating our movement’s accomplishments with our honorees who are critical to making our communities healthier, safer, and more just!

Stuart Appelbaum is a committed fighter and champion for all working people. Since becoming president of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) in 1998, he has been reelected four times by union members. Through his leadership, the RWDSU was able to move the needle in Bessemer, Alabama by shining a spotlight on the abusive conditions in Amazon, and breathe new life into the American labor movement. Stuart and the RWDSU have been invaluable partners to ALIGN on numerous campaigns, most recently in the fight for the NY HERO Act, legislation that will protect and empower workers to fight this pandemic and whatever may come next that was developed by ALIGN's NY Essential Workers Coalition and fellow movement builders Assembly Member Karines Reyes and Senator Michael Gianaris.
