John,
I was elected to the Senate in 1992 -- during the epic “year of the woman.” It was supposed to mark a shift in our political life, usher in an era when more women would be represented and no longer have to worry about our basic freedoms like reproductive choice being assaulted.
But now, right- wing, anti-choice activists have gotten stronger and more organized and State Legislatures nationwide are passing more and more draconian anti-choice laws. And as Roe v. Wade is headed to the Supreme court, we’re facing a threat here in California.
National Republicans and right-wing activists are trying to recall pro-choice Governor Gavin Newsom and replace him with a Republican who will undo our hard fought victories.
The leading GOP candidate to replace Newsom is a right-wing radio host who once called Roe v. Wade “one of the worst decisions that the Supreme Court ever handed down,” doesn’t believe in family leave after a parent gives birth, and said that “smart” women should learn to ignore workplace harassment.
John, we cannot let a politician with such draconian views about women anywhere near the Governor’s office. Will you chip in $10 today to help fund our get out the vote organizing efforts? There are only 21 days left to reach out to voters and make sure they vote NO on the recall by September 14.
I have never stopped advocating for the freedoms of women and girls worldwide, and in my home state here in California. Throughout his career, Governor Newsom has done the same. He’s doubled our state’s investment in reproductive health, taken action to reduce Black maternal mortality rates, increased access to safe, legal abortion, and so much more.

On September 14, California has a choice. We can continue being a forward thinking state that fights for reproductive justice that values the contributions of women and girls, or we can head back to the 1950s. I know what vision of the future I choose.
VOTE NO on the Republican Recall.
Most sincerely,
Senator Barbara Boxer (ret).
