John, Democrats lost a seat in the Connecticut State Senate last week. Alexis Gevanter and countless dedicated volunteers worked hard, and we’re so proud of what they accomplished in this extremely close special election race.
Ultimately the Republican candidate won by less than 500 votes, and as the CT Mirror reported, it’s “the first flip of a state legislative seat by either party in 2021 — and it came in a district handily won by Joe Biden last year.”
As we approach November’s elections and next year’s midterm elections, it’s no secret that Republicans are aiming to flip as many seats as possible. Last week’s narrow loss means that it’s critical for Democrats nationwide to work together to protect our majorities.
Here are three ways that you can take action right now:
- 1. Donate. By chipping in $20 you can help ensure that the Connecticut Democratic Party has the resources necessary to mobilize voters and support Democrats in upcoming elections up and down the ballot.
- 2. Volunteer. Knocking doors and having conversations with voters is the most effective way to get out the vote, and we need more volunteers in advance of November’s elections. Sign up here to volunteer with CT Dems!
- 3. Join a CT Dems event. From our free training workshops to our summer party series, attending a CT Democratic Party event is a great way to meet fellow Democrats and get involved at the local level. Check out our events page here.
The next generation of Republicans is carrying on Trump’s legacy and they’re determined to win up and down the ballot nationwide in November and next year. It’s up to us to get organized, mobilize voters, and build a plan to win.
Thank you for taking action,
Connecticut Democrats
