15 Year Anniversary of Groundbreaking
Lead Legislation

15 years ago this month, The City of Rochester implemented the first nationally-recognized local lead law. This Lead Ordinance did two things:
1) Created a city-wide system for childhood lead poisoning prevention that focused on the highest risk children first.
2) Established a system where any City of Rochester resident can request a free lead inspection in their home.
It remains the cornerstone of coordinated community-wide action that resulted in Rochester’s lead poisoning rate declining 2.4 times faster than the rest of the state.
Congratulations to the City of Rochester on this milestone anniversary and continuing to support lead safety in our community today.
