On Tuesday, Governor Mike?DeWine?joined?governors?from?Michigan, Wisconsin,?Pennsylvania,?Illinois,?and?Minnesota?in?sending?a letter to?members of?the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources in support of?the Recovering America?s Wildlife Act.? ?The?bill?would?dedicate?almost?$1.4?billion for?fish and wildlife conservation efforts?across the country.?
On Tuesday, Lt. Governor Jon Husted spoke to the economic development breakfast co-hosted by the Dayton Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Dayton Development Coalition. He spoke about the skills gap that exists in Ohio and across the country and how the Governor?s Office of Workforce Development is working to support economic growth by pairing Ohioans with the skills they need to compete in a technology-infused economy.
On Wednesday, Governor Mike DeWine?announced that Ohio is now offering $8.5 million in grant funding to enhance safety and security at religious institutions, chartered nonpublic schools, licensed preschools, and?nonprofit organizations. These grants are being offered as part of Governor DeWine's STRONG Ohio violence prevention plan and are funded through Ohio's 2020-2021 operating budget.
On Wednesday, Lt. Governor Husted delivered the keynote address at a statewide workforce summit held between the Ohio Hospital Association and the Ohio Association of Community Colleges. He used the event to challenge industry leaders to be a part of the solution to Ohio?s workforce shortage by partnering with education providers to ensure students are gaining the right skills to qualify them for good career opportunities in the healthcare industry.
Also on Thursday,?Governor DeWine, Ohio Bureau of Workers? Compensation (BWC) Administrator/CEO Stephanie McCloud, and RecoveryOhio Director Alisha Nelson announced that?injured workers receiving an opioid prescription will also receive a drug disposal bag upon filling the prescription at a retail pharmacy. The bags destroy the opioids in a chemical process, rendering them useless for legitimate or recreational use.
On Friday, Lt. Governor Husted spoke to around 1,000 students at Lima Makerfest. The event celebrates products that are made in the Lima region. Makerfest brings together businesses, education providers, and students from the area to showcase all the potential career paths available to young people right in their own community.
