Another wildfire is burning out of control, this time in Northern California. It’s one more in a long list of wildfires raging through the Western States this summer.

The Caldor fire has burned 700 homes and left 13,000 residences in neighboring communities under threat. Thousands of people fled their homes as the wildfire scorched more than 154 square miles.

With 104 large wildfires currently burning, primarily in the West, this summer will end as the worst in a decade. More than a million acres have burned from 28,000 wildfires.

The reason? The scientific evidence is indisputable: Climate change is making heat waves three times more likely compared to a century ago. America is now in a 22-year long megadrought.

Wildfires are a clear and present danger to millions of lives. Hundreds of thousands of acres are scorched. Property damage runs into millions of dollars. Water supplies, already at a historic low, are even further drained.

We must demand action now. Allowing climate change-induced wildfires to continue unchecked is a national disaster.
