A handful of moderate Democrats are standing in the way of President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda. Speaker Pelosi is planning to hold a vote today. Last night, between 8 – 10 Democrats refused to support the House budget resolution, which previously passed the U.S. Senate and includes critical investments to make healthcare, eldercare, childcare, housing and education more affordable and to combat the scourge of climate change through clean energy investments.

It will be mostly paid for by raising taxes on the wealthy and corporations; it will not raise taxes on people making less than $400,000 a year.

For the past week, Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund has been directing thousands of phone calls and letters to Democratic offices, building support for the president’s agenda―to make once-in-a-generation investments in our families and communities while unrigging our tax code to ensure the rich and corporations start paying their fair share.

A newly released Americans for Tax Fairness report shows that billionaire wealth has grown by $1.8 trillion over the last 17 months―enough to pay for over half of President Biden’s proposed 10-year $3.5 trillion investment in healthcare, education and more.[1] Remarkably, most of that wealth growth will go “income-tax free” under our loophole-ridden tax system. That has to change.
