As we watch what's happening in Afghanistan, we're actively thinking
about what impact that will have in our country.

Assalamu'alaykum John,

As we at MLFA witness the distressing events happening in Afghanistan
accompanied by the desperate rush of so many of its citizens to flee the
country, we are more aware than ever of the importance of our work.

Over our two decades in operation, we have done our best to help
individuals unfairly treated by our government, many of whom are
immigrants and refugees seeking asylum. But our work has also served to
combat the dangerous prejudices that arise when Islamic beliefs and
values are misrepresented, increasing unfounded suspicion of Muslim
individuals and communities around the world.

Here in the US, we fully expect that there will be repercussions from
these recent events. It's likely there will be heightened vigilance by
authorities, more extreme vetting of Muslim individuals seeking legal
immigration status, and/or an uptick in the number of cases related to
all aspects of national security. Regardless, MLFA is more than ready
and prepared to protect the civil rights of Muslims.

With twenty years of experience, knowledge, and precedent setting cases
under our belts, we know what it takes to combat the injustices that
occur when the actions of a few affect the rights of the many.

With Gratitude,
Arshia Ali-Khan,

Interim CEO & Chief Development Officer
