John,
As a physician, I understand that children need a healthy start in life, which is why access to high-quality early childhood education and child care are so crucial.
Unfortunately, we have a child care crisis in this country, both for the child care workforce and for families.
Too many families just cannot afford child care, which has contributed to the major setbacks we have seen for women in the workforce during the pandemic.
As a working mom who carried twins while working on-call, I know for a fact that you just can’t concentrate on your job if you’re constantly worried about your child’s safety.
At the same time, the child care workforce is underpaid and undervalued, and therefore struggles to find the providers we need to meet demand.
It is past time we made child care more accessible and affordable to set up children and families for happier, healthier lives. And while we are at it, we must raise pay for child care providers without delay.
If you agree that the federal government needs to invest more in child care and education, add your name next to mine:

Affording quality child care has long been a challenge for families across the country.
Child care has only grown more expensive since the start of the pandemic — with the majority of families spending at least 10% of their household income on child care. And nearly half of parents had to make major adjustments to be able to take care of their children, like cutting their hours or even quitting their jobs.
Women are bearing the brunt of these career sacrifices.
But it doesn’t have to stay this way. We can take important steps to make quality child care more affordable and accessible. That includes expanding programs like the Child Care Tax Credit that help families pay for child care, and expanding Head Start. We also need to make child care universal through federal support of locally-run child care centers across the country.
Please, add your name to support the federal government acting to make child care more accessible and affordable. Every kid deserves a healthy start in life.

Thank you for your support.
