In 2001, Barbara was the lone vote in Congress against an authorization bill that gave the president a blank check to go to war in the Middle East. The vote was 420-1 in favor in the House and 98-0 in the Senate.
For her courageous vote, Barbara was called a terrorist and a traitor. She was the subject of hatred, vitriol, and even death threats.
But Barbara is the House’s most trusted progressive voice for a reason — since even before the AUMF vote in 2001 to today, she has unequivocally stood up for our shared values, even in the face of overwhelming contempt and opposition.
