Friend,
In the wake of the effort to
overturn the 2020 election and spread the big lie that the election
was stolen, state legislatures across the country have been
introducing voter suppression bills in record numbers. There have been
over 400 bills introduced across the country that contain provisions
that make it harder to vote.
For decades, the 1965 Voting Rights
Act helped protect against voter suppression laws. Unfortunately, in
2013 the Supreme Court stripped the Voting Rights Act of a key
provision known as preclearance that helped prevent voter suppression.
Since then, we have seen a startling increase in these types of laws
passing throughout the country.
There is good news though. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights
Advancement Act has been introduced in the House. If this bill becomes
law, it would restore the preclearance provision in the Voting Rights
Act and help prevent voter suppression.
To protect and strengthen our
democracy, Congress must pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights
Advancement Act. Click below to send a message to your members of
Congress today and urge them to support the John R. Lewis Voting
Rights Advancement act.
Protecting the right to vote is
essential if we hope to protect our democracy. Thank you for taking
action!
Sincerely,
Mike Brand Advocacy Director
