Irreversible.
That’s the word United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres used this month to describe many destructive and often deadly effects of climate change, which are now “affecting every region on Earth.”
Over the weekend, Alex W. of District of Columbia became the 6,000th EDF member to make a donation to avert climate catastrophe and have their impact tripled by our Summer Match.
We’re especially relying on loyal members like you, who've generously supported our work in the past, to help unlock the full matching gift available before the offer expires. Without your help, we could be leaving precious dollars on the table that we can’t afford to lose—and it looks like you haven’t yet unlocked your share.
So I’m asking you now to make your gift today, before our $2-for-$1 Summer Match expires.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report underscores the urgency of our situation. In his comments, Guterres noted that "global heating is affecting every region on Earth, with many of the changes becoming irreversible."
Here are three big takeaways from the report:
1. There is no question who or what is responsible for the warming we’re experiencing. As climate activists have long known, it’s us, mostly through our addiction to fossil fuels.
2. Warming is happening even faster than previously predicted. We’ve already caused a 1.2-degree increase in global average temperature, and we’re on track to hit 1.5 degrees - a degree of warming that scientists hoped we could prevent - within just a decade or two. At our current pace, we could hit 3 or more degrees by the end of the century.
3. The only way to secure a stable climate future is to reduce our net carbon dioxide pollution to zero as fast as possible. Because carbon dioxide persists in the atmosphere for long after it’s been produced, more warming in the future has already been set in motion by the pollution we’ve already emitted. We must act immediately to limit the damage.
Climate impacts run the gamut - from wildfires, droughts, heat waves, superstorms and heavy rainfall fueled by warmer conditions ...to sea level rise, ocean acidification, and changing weather patterns that are making both human and wildlife habitat increasingly unlivable.
While the shape that climate impacts take depends on where you live, the danger they pose doesn’t.
We all share the same world…the same climate…the same risk. Please donate now to triple your impact and bring on the bold action we need to ensure a more stable climate future.
