Friend,

On August 9, headlines around the world announced the terrifying
findings of the latest assessment by the United Nation's
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

For one day, the climate emergency led the news, with alarming stories
about how man-made global warming is happening now and is causing ever
more deadly floods, wildfires, heat waves, and storms.

Then, the next day, the corporate media went back to its regularly
scheduled programming, almost totally ignoring the climate emergency.
And that is a big part of why our political leaders continue to fail to
take the steps needed to halt the climate crisis.

For more than 20 years, Common Dreams has covered the climate emergency
as among the greatest threats to humankind . . . because it is. And we
will continue to cover the crisis as urgent, front-page news every
day—and from many angles—because that's what is needed to spark the
political will to tackle this problem head on.

But while the planet burns, Common Dreams is facing our own twin
existential crises. First, funding for our work has dropped off
significantly since Donald Trump left office and as the pandemic drags
on. Second, our web traffic from both Google and Facebook has taken a
serious hit, causing not just a reduction in our large readership but
further impacting reader support.

So, today, as we kick off our Summer Campaign with a goal of raising
$75,000, it's more important than ever that we do not fall short.

Will you support Common Dreams today, so we can continue our coverage of
the global climate emergency and other vital issues that you care about?
