John,
When the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013, they did it under the mistaken assumption that protecting the right to vote, particularly among people of color, was no longer needed.
Since that disastrous ruling, we’ve been reminded again and again that the sacred right to vote is not secure for all Americans.
Which is why my Democratic colleagues and I have introduced a new version of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to address the GOP’s constant attacks on our voting rights. We believe that if we don’t act now, our entire democracy is at risk.
Congress is voting on this legislation this week and we need to know you support protecting the right to vote. Add your name here so we can prove that you and a majority of American voters stand in solidarity with us on this important issue.
Over the last two elections, we’ve witnessed significant efforts to limit access to voting and depress turnout — especially in areas with high populations of people of color.
In the last year alone Republican lawmakers have introduced 389 bills with restrictive voting provisions in 48 states. Their goal is perfectly clear: suppress the voices of Democratic voters so that GOP candidates have a better shot at winning.
What’s more, after the 2020 census, Republicans are now trying to figure out how they can gerrymander districts to further solidify their power in Congress and state legislatures across the nation.
We can’t abide by a system that elevates the powerful and privileged voices of a few over the will of the people. You can help stop this blatant power grab by adding your name to our petition in support of the immediate passage of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

Thanks for your help,
Jared
