I think that a lot of us feel utterly betrayed by the lives lost, the bodies and minds destroyed, and the 20 years that the United States spent sending our soldiers to Afghanistan only to beat a hasty retreat under the direction of the current inept administration.

But it takes someone who was personally touched by this to put into words what many of us are feeling. As the U.S.'s 20-year combat mission ends in chaos, our author shares her very personal story of loss and how Afghanistan affected her life.
