The importance of local control. My fellow Utahns, Many people ask me, what is the purpose of the Utah GOP State party? What does the party even do? Everyone sees the many high-profile races across the state, such as Burgess Owens, Mike Lee, and others. Yes, the party is involved in those races but, there are many other elections happening that don't receive the same notoriety. The purpose of the party was very apparent last week in Salt Lake County. When the unelected health department tried to force a mask mandate that went against state law, the county council met and voted 6-3 that this mandate not be put in place. Whether or not you agree with the outcome, the process worked and the law was followed. This past election cycle, the State and County party put an enormous focus on the Salt Lake County council. We were able to flip the seats from a Democratic majority to a Republican Majority. We devoted major time and resources to win these races. This year we have expanded this reach to all 29 counties. The State Party is giving support and resources to any registered Republican running in municipal elections across the state. Our focus is to elect Republicans to City Councils, Mayors, School Boards, and County Commissions in addition to winning big races. As we start close to home and focus on these local races, we make a continued push for local control. Those seats close to us will be the ones that make the most difference in our day-to-day lives.
