John,
If we’re going to protect voting rights, the filibuster has got to go.
And it’s not just voting rights that we need to end the filibuster to advance—it’s campaign finance reform, a ban on partisan gerrymandering, and stronger ethics rules for Congress, presidents and the Supreme Court.
Right now, the For the People Act and other important democracy reform legislation is being blocked in the Senate, because of the need for a 60 vote supermajority, thanks to the filibuster.
If you agree that the filibuster needs to go, let your senators know that it’s long past time to eliminate the filibuster.
In a democracy, a partisan minority isn’t supposed to be able to block legislation supported by a majority of the House, Senate and American people. But with the filibuster, that’s exactly what happens—over and over and over again. The filibuster was used throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries to block civil rights legislation, and now, once again, it’s being used to block urgently-needed voting rights legislation.
Enough is enough. Tell your senators that it’s time to end the filibuster if we want to protect voting rights and our democracy as a whole.
Together, we can make it clear that a strong, equitable democracy is more important than an outdated Senate procedure—we deserve better.
Thank you,
The CREW Team
