** The International Vulture Awareness Day is just around the corner

There is no question that vultures are magnificent birds, which play a crucial role in the environments in which they live. But they need our support. Vultures face several threats across their geographical distribution, and the undeserved bad reputation they often get doesn't help either.

Every year, the International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD) encourages vulture fans to share their passion for these birds collectively and highlight the important work carried out by the world's vulture conservationists.

There are many ways you can celebrate vultures this upcoming IVAD on 4 September. You can participate in an event, organize an activity or even raise awareness on social media!

One of the only two Cinereous Vultures tagged as nestlings in the Douro finally returned home! The vultures in question, named Lechuga, hatched in the Douro back in 2020 and was equipped with GPS transmitters in the nest before fledging as part of the LIFE Rupis project ([link removed]) . In February 2021, Lechuga left the hatching area and embarked on a dispersive tour, exploring new territories between Spain and Portugal, until recently.
