Congress’s foreign policy committees have signaled that they will hold hearings to examine the Taliban’s rapid takeover of Afghanistan ([link removed]) and ongoing evacuations.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory Meeks (D-NY) said he hopes Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will testify “as early as possible.”

Hearings may eventually expand beyond the foreign policy committees to include the armed services and intelligence committees.

The top Republican lawmakers on the House’s foreign affairs, armed services, and intelligence committees ― Ranking Members Michael McCaul (R-TX), Mike Rogers (R-AL), and Devin Nunes (R-CA), respectively ― wrote a joint letter to President Joe Biden to

“[E]xpress our indignation over your reckless withdrawal of U.S. forces in Afghanistan and mismanagement of the preventable disaster that is now unfolding there.”
