Dear John,
We had our second major victory on our campaign to protect green card diversity. Yesterday, Senator Durbin (D-IL) introduced his “RELIEF Act”, an alternative bill to H.R. 1044/S. 386. The "RELIEF Act" takes a balanced approach to addressing the green card backlog--expanding the overall number of green cards available and protecting the diversity of the green card process while removing the per country caps in a way that prevents negative repercussions for our community. Unlike S.386, the “RELIEF Act” does not offer a zero-sum approach that prioritizes one group of immigrants to the exclusion of all others.
NIAC Action has organized another coalition letter with 10 immigrant organizations in support of the RELIEF Act and we plan on gathering more support. But in addition to organizational support, we need community support--and that’s where you come in.
The Senate needs to hear from us loud and clear that if they want to protect green card diversity, they must support the “Relief Act”. Sign our action alert and call your senators today to make sure we build the power needed to win.
In solidarity,
Donna Farvard
Organizing Director, NIAC Action
