Friend, I ran for office to make a positive difference in people's lives. That means defending and fighting to expand the programs that we know are essential to supporting working families and lifting Americans out of poverty.

When I first ran for VA-10, we faced a Republican Congress and a White House that repeatedly proposed cuts to SNAP, the federal program that provides food stamps for millions of Americans in need. I repeatedly spoke out against these cuts, and criticized administrative rules that would have tightened work requirements for SNAP.

So friend, the news last week that the Biden administration has expanded SNAP was extremely heartening to see.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic crisis shined a light on longstanding inequities in our society. Building back better means taking care of those who've been left behind for too long, making major investments in our safety net, and advancing bold policies to create an economy that works for everyone.

Expanding SNAP is one of many steps we must take to achieve this vision. Congress will be coming back this week to discuss a historic budget reconciliation package that can lift up American families. I will advocate to ensure that the House does its duty in crafting a comprehensive and expansive bill that can help transform our country for the next decade and beyond.

Thank you,

Jennifer
