Usually in these emails, we ask you to donate to support our own organization and our work. But today, we have a different ask to make of you:

Will you make a contribution to support efforts to resettle Afghan families in the United States? Your donation will be given to the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, which provides food, housing, and a warm welcome to Afghan refugees as they get their feet under them in America.

For two decades, the U.S. Government has employed Afghan allies to serve alongside U.S. troops, diplomats, and other government employees as interpreters, translators, cultural advisors, drivers, and more. Because of their service to the U.S. mission, our allies and their families soon became the targets of anti-American violence.

Every day, the Biden administration is working to evacuate thousands of our Afghan allies, along with their family members, to get them out of harm’s way before the Taliban can retaliate against them.

That is great news – but we need to think about what comes next for the people who risked their lives to help our troops. Once they get out of Afghanistan, they need a place to live. They need food and community. They even need a ride from the airport!

That’s where the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service comes in. They provide all this and other vital services that help recent refugees get their feet under them in a new country.

This is a really important request, and we hope that our veteran community rises to the occasion. So please, pitch in now, and your (tax deductible!) donation will be directed to the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service charity in support of our Afghan allies.
