Happy Onam!
Onam is a festival that celebrates an Indian King Mahabali who was banished by invaders. But, being a benevolent ruler, he was allowed to return once a year to unite all the many factions of his people in celebration, a celebration of unity that continues to this day.
It was a beautiful ceremony and a timely reminder that despite all the divisiveness in our society today, we are all one.
Speaking of coming together to keep our kids safe: In a 5-2 vote Hillsborough County School board passed a mandatory 30-day mask mandate with a medical exception opt-out. Read more here.
I was also able to tour some of our local schools. First stop was Winthrop Prep. As the owner of a local tutoring company I've been to 504 meetings here to help my students, but this was the first as a legislator. Winthrop is a wonderful school that's doing it right and beating standards. I'm proud of the work they're doing, keep it up!
Nest stop was McLane Middle School where I was thrilled to tour their Robotics lab and see all of the amazing things these young minds are accomplishing. Middle-school-me was admittedly jealous.
I've submitted my nominee for Jeopardy's next host!
Ok, let's see where my "friends" are at!!!
See you soon I assume!!! :)
