Friends,

There is a dire humanitarian crisis unfolding in Afghanistan, and my office has been working around the clock since last week assisting hundreds of Americans and Afghan allies who are urgently attempting to get to the airport and evacuate.

We can leave no American behind, and we must use all means necessary to bring all Americans back home safely. Anything short of that is a dereliction of duty on the part of our Commander in Chief.

This is a particularly difficult time for many veterans and Gold Star Families who are understandably saddened, angered, and despondent watching the events over the past week. Our brave men and women in uniform did everything our nation asked them to do in Afghanistan and more, keeping Americans safe from terrorists and providing the Afghan people with the opportunity to experience freedom for the first time in their lives.

They should know they are not alone right now and there are many resources available to help them get through this. For North Carolinians who have friends and loved ones who served, please make sure you check in on them and let them know how grateful we are for their service to our nation.

Below are resources available for veterans who may need assistance during this time.

Thank you for reading, and as always, please reach out to my office if you have any questions or need help with a federal agency. God bless.
