Here's what makes this movement and the work we're able to accomplish so special.

Today, we want to talk about our average donation this month: $15.
Many campaigns might be ashamed to have an average donation that low. But we're proud of this number, because it represents our supporters who chip in $3, $5, or (on average!) $15 at a time to emails just like this one to fuel our work in Washington and beyond. That's what makes this movement and the work we're able to accomplish so special.
Furthermore, when you take a look at how most campaigns are run, John...our average donation of $15 isn't so "average". Here's why:
- Jamaal refuses contributions from corporate PACs or lobbyists. In 2020, lobby spending reached $3.5 billion — with $839 million of that total spending occurring from October through December. $0 of that spending was on our campaign, because Jamaal doesn't answer to Big Pharma or Wall Street — he responds to the people.
- Rather, our campaign contributions largely come from supporters like you. It's a movement funded by people like you, John, and the people you know; as the saying goes, "Our Squad is Big". When thousands of people show their support and chip in what they can, when they can — the sky's the limit for what we're able to do.
- Every dollar you donate to our campaign doesn't sit idly in a bank account somewhere forever. It goes straight to work for the progressive movement. Whether we're funding on-the-ground and digital organizing efforts ahead of the 2022 midterms, or lending our support and platform to send more progressives like Jamaal to the House — every single dollar goes towards sustaining our movement for progress.
There's a lot we can do (and have done) with your support, John. And as we look towards the rest of the month and into the fall, our plans for our progressive agenda and for keeping Jamaal legislating in Congress are only going to ramp up.
But our fundraising this month has been lower than that of June or July — right at a time when we can't afford for things to slow down. So, we need to ask respectfully: please consider chipping in our average donation of $15 — or whatever you're able! — today.
