John,
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program, established under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, was created to help student loan borrowers who work for qualifying employers and make payments, have their balance paid after 10 years.
Or at least that’s how it was supposed to work.
In reality student loan forgiveness has only been approved for just 2 percent of PSLF applicants.
That’s right, the Department of Education's own data shows that 98 percent of Public Service Loan Forgiveness applicants are rejected.
Are you really reducing costs of and expanding access to a college education if only 2% of PSLF applicants are approved?
Thankfully, the Department of Education is taking public comments about the PSLF right now.
Help fix this program and build a better system by submitting your comment directly to the Department of Education―and demand Joe Biden's Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona take action to fix the student debt crisis!
Many students who became public servants expected part of their federal student loans to be forgiven after 10 years of working and paying off their debt.
Yet now, hundreds of thousands of public servants, people like teachers and nurses, are not receiving the student debt relief they were promised.
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program is supposed to help people who went into public service but the entire process fails to deliver results for anyone.
We need to fix this program and send a message directly to our government about the way student loan debt harms us all.
Please send your comment directly to the Department of Education―and the Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to fix the student debt crisis!
Thank you for taking action today. Together, we will end the student debt crisis in America.
