Did you see this news, John?
Many Californians, especially in the Central Valley, are dealing with extreme drought.
Cal Matters is now reporting that 2,700 wells across the state are projected to go dry this year. If the trend continues, another 1,000 will go dry next year.
We need to be clear -- climate change is real, and it's only getting worse. Unless we take urgent action, we’re going to keep seeing frequent floods, wildfires, hurricanes, storms, and droughts. This isn't the time for half measures.
This issue is personal for me: My husband John and I raised our kids on an apple orchard where he worked. We're both familiar with farmers' need for water -- not to mention the importance of clean drinking water for other households. John is still working with farmers in the area, and we've been hearing about this regularly.
Farmers, working families, and our communities bear the brunt of this issue while politicians like Kevin McCarthy refuse to do anything about the climate crisis. Worse still, he'd rather spend his time kowtowing to Trump and the far-right to advance his career.
We need someone who will take our fight to DC and go to bat for this community -- not just the wealthy and well-connected. That's how I've pledged to run this campaign and why I'm asking you today:
I'm ready to bring my knowledge of agriculture and water issues to Washington DC to fight for this district and solve our climate crisis, but I need to know you’re with me. Add your name to this petition and send a strong message to Congress that California's drought needs immediate attention.
Sincerely,
Marisa
