As one of our oldest affiliate states, Arizona is deeply important to us. So we were horrified to learn that a member of the Arizona State Senate was arrested on charges of child sexual abuse. He resigned from office following his arrest just last week.

This is the third sexual abuse scandal to rock the Arizona State Legislature in the past four years: Rep. Don Shooter in 2018, Rep. David Stringer in 2019, and now Sen. Tony Navarrete. Arizona deserves better. And we are already hard at work to make that happen. 

Right now, we have close to 40 Emerge alums in office at the state and local level and more than 300 ready to run. But we need major support to have their backs, build our state program’s capacity, and transform this public outcry into real political reform.
