Friends,
In opposition to official public health guidance, Gov. McMaster pressured public schools to return in person without any mask mandates, social distancing, or vaccine requirements — even as cases spike due to the rise of the Delta variant.
Last week in Pickens County, administrators were forced to move to virtual instruction after 142 students tested positive and four staff members were hospitalized.
Since then, 60 more districts have gone back in-person, including large student populations in Charleston, Greenville and Richland, as well as the University of South Carolina.
In fact, the state’s DHEC director just recommended SC schools require universal masking to keep students and staff safe. Yet, Gov. McMaster continues to be at odds with school administrators, public health officials, and science — because he cares more about partisan signaling than the lives of South Carolinians.
McMaster’s refusal to lead on COVID-19 is putting the lives of students, educators, and their families at risk. More people will die because of his inaction. Period.
With so much at stake, we need bold solutions… NOT denial and indifference. We need a leader who will put people over politics. That’s why Mia released her plan to combat COVID as our first policy priority — a comprehensive strategy to keep South Carolinians safe and utilize all pandemic-related funding.
Now, Mia is counting on you to show grassroots support for her plan. If you agree with Mia’s plan to stop the spread of COVID and protect ALL our communities, sign on today as a citizen endorser:
