Helping Evacuate U.S. Citizens from Afghanistan
President Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan has resulted in thousands of Americans being abandoned behind enemy lines, and all efforts need to be focused on getting them home safely as quickly as possible.
I urge the Biden Administration to make it a top priority to provide safe passage for all Americans attempting to reach the airport in Kabul so they can safely get out of the country. If you’re an American citizen stuck in Afghanistan or know of anyone stranded, please contact my office at (504) 837-1259.
We will do everything we can to help those left behind in Afghanistan, and we will continue to gather information and push the State Department to evacuate our citizens who have been abandoned behind enemy lines, as well as those who assisted our military in their mission.
Touring the Morganza-to-the-Gulf Hurricane Protection System
Yesterday, I toured the future site of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) East Floodgate and the Grand Bayou Floodgate in Larose with members of the Morganza Action Coalition.
I recently secured $19.3 million in community project funding for the GIWW East Floodgate in the House Energy and Water bill. This exclusive construction funding opportunity dedicated to Morganza through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will help advance construction of this key component of the Morganza project, and if it is approved by the Senate and signed into law, it will follow the $12.46 million in Corps funding I helped secured for the project at the beginning of 2021. It was great to visit the site and discuss the project with Bayou officials who are hard at work to get construction underway.
We also visited the Grand Bayou Floodgate, which is in its final phase of construction. I received an in-depth tour of the structure and learned about its design which brings much-needed flood protection to thousands of families and businesses in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes.
Congratulating 2021 Congressional App Challenge Winners
Congratulations to Ryan Mulkey, Sheen Wood, and Tony Rito from Northshore High School for winning the 2020-2021 Congressional App Challenge for Louisiana's First Congressional District. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them present their winning App, Solaris Schema, an interactive app that allows people to click on planets in our solar system as they operate on their axis to the sun and learn about their makeup and characteristics.
As a former software engineer, I am always excited to see students taking an interest in the applied sciences and exploring new ways to allow technology to make our everyday lives easier.
I applaud these students for their hard work and success, and commend Northshore High School for encouraging students to get more interested in developing skills in computer science and coding.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information, please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
