Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good evening,

This week, I stayed in Arizona and met with constituents from across the district. I also attended many briefings with military and government leaders, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, to discuss the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan. I am continuing to monitor this situation closely and my office is available to assist with Americans seeking evacuation. Please call 623-776-7911 if you or someone you know needs help.

This week, I met with constituents from Surprise, Phoenix, and Sun City to discuss what’s happening in Washington, D.C. and issues facing our community. I also had the opportunity to moderate a panel for Arizona State University’s Congressional Conference and discuss the importance of supporting emerging technologies in Arizona.

Legislative Update

This week I reintroduced my Red Light Act which withholds federal highway funds from states that provide driver’s licenses or identification cards to illegal aliens. It is ridiculous that some states refuse to address our country’s illegal immigration problem and instead issue driver’s licenses and identification cards to illegal aliens. This practice poses a threat to the safety and security of our nation. If these states refuse to implement the immigration laws of this nation, they do not deserve to receive federal funds to improve their highways and roadways.

GET THE FACTS: Afghanistan

The situation that is happening in Afghanistan is heartbreaking and was sadly avoidable. It is clear that the Biden Administration did not adequately prepare for the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, and we are now living with the consequences of that failure. Thousands of Americans still remain in Afghanistan and we have had to send more troops to Afghanistan to secure the airport. Ensuring Americans were safe should have been the top priority, instead, the Biden Administration waited, underestimated the strength of the Taliban, and ignored warning signs from military leaders and diplomats on the ground. Please join me in praying for our troops in Afghanistan, the American citizens seeking evacuation, and the Afghan people who face an uncertain future—especially the women and girls.

Encouraging Story

This week, I want to share with you the remarkable and talented group of musicians who make up the Peoria High School Band. I was honored to nominate the band to play in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. I am proud of their hard work and excited to see their performance in Washington, D.C.!

Casework Highlight

A constituent reached out to our office because he had not yet received his third stimulus payment or his 2020 tax return refund. Our office reached out to the Internal Revenue Service, and they processed his return and stimulus payments.
