![]() Hi Folks,
The Appropriations Committee sent SB 9 to the Assembly floor for a vote in the coming days. SB 10 is already on the floor. They must pass by Sept. 10 or die for this year.
A growing movement is urging a NO vote on SB 9 and SB 10, which make homeownership a contact sport for pension funds and rental giants, and create NO AFFORDABLE HOUSING.
Final Steps: On Saturday at 10 am, roll up your sleeves for a Facebook/Twitter/email/“district office involving a human” push! The aim is to educate busy legislators and aides on the consequences of SB 9 and SB 10.
What’s at stake: If SB 9 passes and Gov. Newsom signs it, the bill’s unprecedented profit incentives will draw deep pockets to single-family “markets.” Particularly in tree-lined Black and Latino homeowner strongholds in South L.A., the diverse Inland Empire, Greater L.A., O.C. and San Diego — plus all the desirable ‘burbs and getaways in NorCal and Central California.
SB 9 is not “for homeowners,” who under law must pay off their existing MORTGAGE to do the “lot split,” THEN get a huge construction loan. SB 9 is for investors. Period.
Nor did last-minute amendments fix AT ALL the fact that both bills ENCOURAGE density in all California’s fire zones, whether protected by local fire departments or CAL FIRE.
Video inspiration: San Fernando City Councilmember Cindy Montanez, CEO of TreePeople, urges 1,100 attendees at an anti-SB 9/SB 10 town hall to become insta-lobbyists. Match their money with our heart!
