Dear Friend,

As you might already know, New York City will face the brunt of Tropical Storm Henri in the coming days. I am sure many of you remember Hurricane Sandy, along with the havoc and damage it caused to our city. It is imperative we listen to our public officials as we attempt to mitigate the effects of this storm.

I know some of you in the 9th Congressional District live within walking distance of the beach, including areas such as Gerritsen Beach and Marine Park. Out of an abundance of caution, New York City has closed all city beaches to swimming on Sunday, August 22nd and Monday, August 23rd. Additionally, the MTA is urging people to stay home, as well as to only use public transportation if absolutely necessary due to the dangerous conditions predicted as an effect of Tropical Storm Henri. With potential wind gusts of up to 60 mph or higher, it is critical you proceed with caution if you are near local green spaces, as the expected high winds can impact street and park trees.

Along with these dangers, please note power outages are a distinct possibility. To view the outage map or learn more about service restoration, click here.  You can report outages or service problems by calling 1-800-75-CONED (26633). If you would like to sign up for text notifications: Go to coned.com/text or text REG to OUTAGE (688243). Before registering, make certain you have your Con Edison account number at hand; it is necessary to complete your registration.

I urge you to stay home during this storm. Absolutely nothing is more important than ensuring we are all safe and unharmed.

Sincerely,
