Leahy for Vermont

Friend,

Living in Vermont has given me a deep love and respect for the environment. I have seen firsthand the impact climate change has had on my state and its environmental treasures. I've also spent decades securing investments for conservation and research to protect our environment and fight the devastating impact of climate change. Still, Vermont is hotter and wetter than it used to be and the risk that poses is great.

Yesterday, Secretary Vilsack joined me in Vermont to meet with climate experts at the waterfront to discuss what we can do to meet this challenge. Vermont, and the rest of the country, faces a harsh reality: Act now to mitigate the climate crisis, or it will get worse. Luckily, Congress has a path forward.

I'll tell you more in a minute, but first, sign your name next to mine in support of bold, nationwide investments to combat the climate crisis.

This summer, we’ve seen the crisis unfold. Storm damage and flooding. Heat waves upwards of 90 degrees (in Vermont!). Haze and smoke traveling 3,000 miles eastward from the western U.S. And yes, algae blooms in Lake Champlain.

The catastrophes we’re seeing in every corner of the country this summer is why I’m doing everything I can right now to secure a better future for my grandkids and yours.

Before the Senate recess this month, I voted to pass two very important bills -- the bipartisan infrastructure deal and the budget reconciliation package -- which, together, represent our path forward. Together, these bills open the door to significant climate investments, and both bills are now with the House to take up when they return from recess next week.

As my colleagues get back to Capitol Hill next week, they need to hear from you: Sign on to lend your support for significant and necessary climate action.

Thanks for taking a minute to share your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
