Democrat,
All over the country we are seeing a stark divide play out between responsible leaders like Governor Murphy who are enacting commonsense public health measures to stem the tide of the Delta variant, and others who are ignoring science and prioritizing politics over public health. Unfortunately, this same disregard for medical expertise is also rearing its ugly head here in New Jersey, as Republican gubernatorial candidate Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli was recently caught on tape claiming that “children are not vulnerable” to COVID-19. This comes at a time when nearly 2,000 kids are hospitalized across the country and some here in New Jersey are in ICU beds right now. It’s a dangerous lie that can put our children in danger, and another reason why we can’t allow Ciattarelli to become governor.

Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver stepped into the role of Acting Governor and signed a piece of major legislation that will reform and restore funding to the state’s Urban Enterprise Zone program. This proven economic development tool has helped many of the state’s urban communities attract new investment, creating jobs and local tax revenue, before it was gutted during the Christie administration. Now thanks to Governor Murphy, Lt. Governor Oliver and legislative Democrats, the UEZ program will once again help revitalize our urban communities.
President Biden announced this week that all Americans will be encouraged to receive a booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine eight months after they received their second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. Guidance for people who received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is coming soon. With the Delta variant leading to increased risk, we applaud the President for taking this important step to keep us all safe.
Thank you,
-- Chairman LeRoy J. Jones, Jr.
P.S. -- I was glad to meet up with an excellent local Democratic candidate this week in my own home county of Essex, when I joined Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill to support Christy Lazarow and Jessica Almeida’s campaign for Council in West Caldwell. It’s great to see leaders in so many of our communities stepping up and running for office and I look forward to meeting with other Democratic candidates throughout the state in the coming months.
